Cambodia Coach Makes Decision After Consecutive Losses to Indonesia in 2026 ASEAN Cup

Cambodia's coach has made a decision following the loss to Indonesia, marking two consecutive defeats in the 2026 ASEAN Cup.

On 28 July 2026, Koji Gyotoku, the Japanese coach of the Cambodia national team, spoke after losing the first two matches in the 2026 ASEAN Football Championship (2026 ASEAN Cup). Cambodia remains without points, ranking 4th out of 5 teams in Group A.

In their first match, Cambodia lost 1-2 to Singapore, conceding the winning goal during injury time at 90+11 minutes. In the second match last night, they were heavily defeated by Indonesia 5-1. Only Timor-Leste has a worse record, having lost 0-7 to Vietnam and 0-2 to Singapore.

However, coach Koji Gyotoku remains determined to try to win the remaining two games. "It's unfortunate that we lost this match, but it was a valuable experience for us to face Indonesia, a team full of talented players."

"We have now lost two matches in a row, but we still have two games left. We must keep moving forward and strive to win in the remaining matches."

"Indonesia has many skilled players and is especially strong in physical contests due to their height and build, which is an area we need to improve on."

Cambodia’s remaining 2026 ASEAN Cup schedule:

3 August 2026: Cambodia vs. Timor-Leste

7 August 2026: Vietnam vs. Cambodia
