Ray MacDonald: The Man Who Planted the Seeds of Dreams for a Boy from Pattani, Supachai to Buriram United and the Thai National Team

Ray MacDonald: The man who planted the seeds of dreams for a boy from Pattani named Supachai Jaided, guiding him to Buriram United and the Thai national team.

Ray MacDonald's passing at age 49 on the morning of 19 August 2026 brought sorrow to fans who had followed him since the 1990s as a famous actor and host. Beyond the entertainment loss, his departure also affected the sports world. For many, especially in southern youth football circles, Ray was more than an actor; he was the person who gave a young man the chance to leave home, see the world, and pursue his dreams.

Looking back, Ray MacDonald was once a youth footballer and captain of the Thamrongthai team that finished runner-up at the Gothia Cup in Sweden. This bond with football led him years ago to become chairman of the youth football club Santipap FC, which provided children and youths from the three southern border provinces a stage to showcase their talents, including chances to compete abroad. For children from remote areas like Pattani, this was no small opportunity.

One youth player who joined the team was a boy named "Arm," Supachai Jaided, who was only 10 at the time. He played for Santipap FC during Ray’s chairmanship and was among those selected to compete in Sweden at age 13. This was the first step that allowed a boy from Pattani to see the wider world and marked the beginning of his entire football career.

Today, Supachai Jaided is a forward for Buriram United and has advanced to the senior Thai national team. His journey is filled with his own determination, but undeniably, the small start at Santipap FC was the first door that opened to him—and Ray was one of the people who opened that door.

What makes this story even more beautiful is that "Arm" has never forgotten the person who gave him his chance. Over the years, he often visited Ray, bringing his jersey and his children along, showing a strong bond. The relationship between the one who gave opportunities and the youth who never forgot the kindness creates a heartwarming image whenever seen.

Many may remember Ray as a cheeky young actor from the 90s or the popular host of the youth show "Teens Talk," but behind those images, Ray quietly did small things that greatly impacted others’ lives. Offering opportunities for youth from the southern border provinces to enter the football world is one example that shows a quieter but no less meaningful side of his work beyond the screen.

Ray’s passing today leaves not only memories in entertainment but also stories of the opportunities he gave, which grew into the realized dreams of a boy from Pattani who now proudly wears the "Chang Suek" jersey of the Thai national team. We wish Ray MacDonald a peaceful afterlife and thank him for the opportunities he gave a young man who has now become a full-fledged Thai national footballer.
