Following Vietnam's 2-0 victory over Malaysia in the second leg of the 2026 ASEAN Cup semifinals, with two goals from substitute Nguyen Xuan Son, Vietnam won 4-0 on aggregate and advanced to the final against Thailand.
After the match, Vietnam coach Kim Sang-sik said, "I hope Nguyen Xuan Son will score three goals against Thailand in the upcoming final."
