Path to the Finals in China: What Thailands U-20 National Team Must Do to Qualify for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup

What must Thailand's under-20 national football team do to advance to the final tournament of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in China?

On 31 August 2026, Thailand's U-20 national football team, known as the "War Elephants," coached by "Coach Bo" Jakrapan Panpi, faces the challenge of qualifying for the final stage in the People's Republic of China in early 2027 at the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

Thailand's U-20 team is hosting the qualifiers at Chonburi Stadium, placed in Group F alongside Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkmenistan. The matches will take place from 31 August to 6 September 2026.

The qualifying format divides teams into eight groups of four, playing round-robin matches. Fifteen teams will qualify for the final tournament, excluding host China. Thailand's U-20 team has two main routes to advance.

First, Thailand must win their group to qualify automatically among the eight group winners. Second, finishing as one of the seven best runners-up across all groups will also secure progression. Teams finishing last in their groups will be relegated to the lower zone qualifiers next time.

The match schedule for Thailand's U-20 team in the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers is as follows:

#Matchday1: Thailand U20 vs UAE U20 on 31 August 2026 at 19:30, Chonburi Stadium.

#Matchday2: Turkmenistan U20 vs Thailand U20 on 3 September 2026 at 19:30, Chonburi Stadium.

#Matchday3: Iraq U20 vs Thailand U20 on 6 September 2026 at 19:30, Chonburi Stadium.
