Chinese Football Association Faces Possible AFC Sanctions After Closed-Door Match with Thailand Leaks Results and Highlights

The Chinese Football Association appears unlikely to avoid punishment from the AFC after declaring a closed-door friendly with Thailand yesterday, but match results, images, and video highlights were all leaked.

On 11 Oct 2025 GMT+7, the Chinese Football Association is expected to face a fine from the AFC, the Asian Football Confederation, after announcing that the friendly match between China's U23 team and Thailand's U23 team would be played behind closed doors. This meant no match results, still images, or video highlights were to be released.

However, shortly after the game ended, the match results, still images, and video highlights were widely shared with the public, just like any other regular match. This violated FIFA regulations, which require that international friendly matches, including club-level games, be reported to FIFA.

This is because FIFA has guidelines to enhance competition integrity and prevent match-fixing, a concern increasingly linked to betting and gambling activities.
