Kakhana Kamyok expressed regret over missing the U23 Asian Championship and believes the Thailand national team still has hope despite losing to Australia U23.
On 9 Jan 2026 GMT+7, following the U23 Asian Football Championship final round in Saudi Arabia from 6-24 January 2026, the Thailand U23 team, coached by "Coach Wang" Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul, started with a 1-2 loss to Australia U23.
This tournament did not coincide with FIFA international dates, causing many clubs to withhold key players. As a result, Thailand's U23 squad lacked several core players from qualifiers and the SEA Games, including Kakhana Kamyok, a rising midfielder from Muangthong United.
Recently, Kakhana Kamyok admitted he regretted not joining the Asian Championship battle with his teammates. He praised the team's performance against Australia despite the 1-2 defeat, expressing confidence that the team will win the remaining two matches and advance to the quarterfinals as planned.
Kakhana Kamyok said, “It was unfortunate that the team was reduced to 10 players, which made it harder to execute the coach’s tactics, although at that time the team could still find some counterattack opportunities.”
“I regret not being able to compete at the Asian level and wanted to measure my ability against peers in Asia to see where I stand.”
Kakhana Kamyok is the player who scored 2 goals, helping Thailand U23 defeat Malaysia 2-1 and secure the ticket to the 2026 Asian Championship final round in Saudi Arabia.
