Nicholas Mickelson responds clearly on the issue of replacing “Theerathon” if he is not named in Thailand’s squad against Turkmenistan.
On 25 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Thailand’s attacking full-back Nicholas Mickelson spoke openly in an interview with the “Bundesliga-Media Roundtable with Nicholas Mickelson” about the opportunity to play as left-back replacing Theerathon Bunmathan, who suffered a broken nose during the AFC Champions League Elite. Recently, the veteran left-back's condition has been improving steadily, and he has begun light training.
Recently, Mickelson has been performing impressively with his club, SV Elversberg, playing regularly as a left-back. He also scored his first goal in the 2. Bundesliga in a match where his team defeated Dynamo Dresden 2-1.
When asked whether playing left-back for his club, while normally acting as right-back for the national team, would allow him to fill Theerathon’s role, Mickelson admitted it would be difficult because their playing styles differ.
“Theerathon and I have different playing styles. There are things I can do that he cannot, and things he can do that I cannot. He is an outstanding player, and it’s hard to replace him,” Mickelson said.
Looking ahead, Thailand is scheduled to host Turkmenistan in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying round, Group D, at Rajamangala National Stadium on 31 March 2026 GMT+7 at 19:30.
