Anthony Hudson boasts of his Asian-level experience and expresses confidence in his strategy for the crucial match against Turkmenistan that will decide advancement in the Asian Cup.
On 30 March 2026 at 16:00, at the press conference room of Rajamangala Stadium, the event organizer held a pre-match press conference for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying round, Group D, matchday 6, where the Thailand national team will face Turkmenistan on 31 March 2026.
The press conference was led by head coach Anthony Hudson along with midfielder Thanawat Suengchitthawon from the team.
At the press conference, Hudson said, “First and foremost, the most important thing for the coaching staff has been excellent team preparation throughout the week. Up to now, the players have responded very well to the training. After today’s session, we might review some minor details, but overall, things look good. With proper preparation and a strong squad, everyone feels confident. That said, the upcoming match is tough and complex because Turkmenistan is also a strong team, but overall, things are looking very promising.”
“Of course, regarding the messages to the players, I have emphasized giving their all and being fully committed on the field. The most important thing during the game is to maintain control and consistent performance, as well as emotional discipline. We expect every player to push themselves to their limits but without crossing the line. In the past, we couldn’t predict the future due to different circumstances and timing; it’s been a long time and the situations aren’t comparable. This match is very special, and I hope it will be a special night. Personally, I have experience in games like this in various situations before coaching Thailand, including World Cup qualifiers, Asian Cup qualifiers, continental-level matches, and finals. One very important aspect is that we are playing at home, which offers many advantages. The most important factor isn’t just the pitch but the fans. I recall when we faced Peru, the players and coaching staff warmed up and I experienced the overwhelming noise from Peruvian fans trying to pressure us. It made both staff and players feel the pressure. For a game of this importance, it’s not just staff and players but all fans who matter. I want all fans to come out, cheer, support, and encourage the players fully. If possible, fill the stadium to capacity and come early to pressure the opponents and support the players from warm-up onward. These things are very important from my perspective. What I can do is support all players and provide them with the best possible information and readiness. Most importantly, I want all fans to come and cheer as loudly as possible.”
“As I’ve said, the current team preparation has been excellent. Everyone, including myself and the staff, must be capable of providing information so players understand the preparation style needed for this type of match. The key now is to keep all players fresh and ready for tomorrow’s game. Physically, everyone should be at their best. Regarding the starting eleven, in a game like this it’s not just about the starters but the entire team. The starters have performed very well, but the most crucial factor for elevating the game is the substitutes who come on and raise the level. I am confident not only in the starting eleven but in everyone, including those on the bench, who can help and change the game. I expect all players, starters and substitutes alike, to show their highest potential and best form in a game like this.”
“Certainly, preparing to face the opponent is like every game, but for this match, I understand that accessing information is quite difficult. Tactically, we have reviewed Turkmenistan’s past 10-11 games. I am confident that the staff and players understand well how to play, their strengths and weaknesses. However, we must respect the opponent as Turkmenistan is a very tough team, playing aggressively with high physical strength. This game will definitely be difficult and complex. We respect them for performing so well to reach this stage. Regarding understanding the opponent tactically, I have analyzed their likely style of play, but ultimately, it can’t be fully predicted. On match day, the opponent might change their approach, but I have prepared backup plans with all players.”
“The key is not just the first 15-20 minutes; starting aggressively to score quickly is not the point. Football is played over 90 minutes, and ultimately the goal is to finish with our victory when the final whistle blows. I feel the selected players are specifically chosen because they are good enough, whether attackers, defenders, or substitutes, all have enough quality to help us succeed. I am very confident. The key for tomorrow’s game is to aim that after 90 minutes, the victory belongs to us.”
“Certainly, this match is a decisive one that will determine our team’s fate in this tournament. It is very important. As a coaching staff and players, we expect to respond and deliver something that excites and entertains the fans, encouraging them to cheer and support us. As I mentioned earlier, playing at home is a huge advantage. The fans play a very important role in boosting and supporting us. I invite all fans to come and cheer us on.”
