Chanathip Targeted by Malicious Person Impersonating Him to Ask Fans for Money to Pay Fireworks Fine After Win Over Turkmenistan 2-1

Chanathip Songkrasin was targeted by a scammer impersonating him to demand money for the fine related to fireworks set off by Thai fans.

On 5 Apr 2026, the Thailand national team defeated Turkmenistan 2-1, earning 15 points from 6 games and successfully advancing to the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

However, while thanking fans near Zone S, a group of fans brought fireworks for Chanathip Songkrasin to light as promised: if they won this game, they would set them off, requesting fans not to light them during the match. After the win, "Jay" fulfilled that promise.

Reports indicate the Football Association of Thailand could be fined hundreds of thousands of baht. However, this depends on the match officials’ report, since the fireworks were set off after the game, did not interrupt play, nor cause damage to the stadium. If this case applies, the penalty might be reduced.

Recently, Chanathip unfortunately was targeted by a scammer impersonating him to ask for money to help pay the fireworks fine.

The scam message said, "Hello, this is Chanathip. I am currently collecting money to pay the fireworks fine. Could you help with 300 baht via TrueMoney? I will repay it once I receive the winnings."

This prompted Chanathip’s official Facebook page to post the question, "Who is this?"
