Thailand U20 Womens Football Team Falls 1-2 to South Korea in Extra Time at Asian Championship Quarterfinals

Thailand's U20 women's football team was defeated 1-2 by South Korea in extra time during the quarterfinals of the Asian Championship.

On 12 April 2026 at 20:00, at Thammasat Stadium, the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup Thailand 2026 quarterfinals saw Thailand's U20 women's national football team face South Korea.


Thailand's U20 women's team advanced as runners-up of Group A and faced South Korea, runners-up of Group B. Coach Nueng Nuengruethai Sarathongvien fielded Kulisara Limpawanich as the striker, supported on the flanks by Madison Jate Kastein and Keden Chaowanphan, with captain Rinyaphat Mooldong partnering Pichaythida Manowang as playmakers.


The game began with South Korea controlling possession and attacking, creating the first chance in the 8th minute when Lee Hae An fired from outside the box, but the ball sailed over the crossbar.


In the 16th minute, South Korea earned a corner kick from Han Min Seo's cross, and Nam Seung Un arrived to head the ball in, giving South Korea a 1-0 lead over Thailand.


At the 23rd minute, Thailand had their first chance from a free kick after Kulisara Limpawanich was fouled; Rinyaphat Mooldong took a shot but the ball went over the crossbar.


A minute later, from a corner where the ball was scrambled, Keden Chaowanphan volleyed left-footed but missed over the crossbar again.


Thailand began pressing and applying pressure on South Korea; in the 31st minute, they forced a turnover, allowing Pichaythida Manowang to run forward and shoot with her left foot, hitting the top of the net.


In the 38th minute, South Korea threatened when Jin Hyerin broke through and passed to Lee Hae An, whose shot was saved by Chonthicha Panyarung.


At the 43rd minute, Thailand nearly equalized when Rinyaphat Mooldong hustled to poke the ball to Kulisara Limpawanich, who broke free to shoot with her right foot, but the ball hit the post. The half ended with South Korea leading 1-0.


Early in the second half at 47 minutes, Thailand threatened from a corner; Rinyaphat Mooldong’s cross was cleared poorly by South Korea’s defense to Kulisara Limpawanich, who headed but was saved by Kim Chae Bin.


At the 49th minute, South Korea had a chance from a long-range shot by Jin Hyerin, but the ball flew over the crossbar.


Thailand continued pressing hard; in the 57th minute, Keden Chaowanphan dribbled forward and shot left-footed, but it was saved by Kim Chae Bin once again.


South Korea countered with a free kick where Nam Seung Un jumped to head, but the ball went wide of the goal.


At the 69th minute, Thailand made their first substitution, bringing Kasetsirin Boonmatun on for Pichaythida Manowang.


In the 72nd minute, Thailand equalized after South Korea's poor clearance fell to Kulisara Limpawanich, who passed to Madison Jate Kastein, who scored to make it 1-1.


At 78 minutes, Thailand had another chance from a free kick; South Korea’s defense failed to clear properly, and Kasetsirin Boonmatun shot right-footed but missed wide.


In the 87th minute, from a long ball, South Korea nearly scored an own goal but cleared it to Madison Jate Kastein, who shot beautifully but missed. The 90 minutes ended tied 1-1, sending the match into extra time.


During extra time, South Korea pressed hard but Thailand's defense blocked well. At the 95th minute, Keden Chaowanphan dribbled inside and shot right-footed, but the ball went over the crossbar.


At the 100th minute, Thailand made a substitution, bringing Patcharaporn Kucheun on for Natcha Kaewanta.


In the 106th minute, from a long ball, Park Ju Ha broke through and lobbed a shot over Chonthicha Panyarung, giving South Korea a 2-1 lead.


At the 113th minute, Thailand made another substitution, bringing Jiralak Kamtan on for Rinyaphat Mooldong.


No further goals were scored, and the match ended with Thailand’s U20 women's team losing 1-2 to South Korea, ending their journey at the quarterfinal stage of the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup.
