
The Thailand U17 national team lost to Tajikistan U17 in the opening match of the 2026 Asian Championship.
The 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Championship group stage, Group A, first match took place on the night of Tuesday, 5 May 2026, where Thailand faced Tajikistan at King Abdullah Sports City, Stadium B (Champions), Saudi Arabia.
In this match, head coach Marco Gockel started twin brothers Phanuwich Jaeyakom and Phanupong Jaeyakom in the starting lineup, joining the attack alongside Poramet Laongdee, Phonpitak Rungrueang, and Sutthipong Ekbua.
Just one minute into the game, Tajikistan took the lead 1-0. Mirahmadov Muhammad crossed the ball into the penalty area, and Pechrayut Sobunma's poor clearance resulted in an own goal. The first half ended with this score.
In the second half, at the 60th minute, Thailand was reduced to 10 men after Pechrayut Sobunma fouled a Tajikistan player and received a second yellow card, resulting in a red card and his dismissal from the match.
During injury time at 90+7 minutes, Tajikistan scored a second goal through Parviz Sankinov, after which the referee blew the final whistle.
This resulted in Thailand U17 losing 0-2 to Tajikistan U17 in their opening match of the 2026 Asian Championship, while in another Group A match, Saudi Arabia U17 defeated Myanmar U17 4-0.
