The Mindset of 37-Year-Old Forward Teerasil Dangda That Keeps Him Performing at a Top Level

Teerasil Dangda, a 37-going-on-38-year-old forward, shares the mindset that has enabled him to maintain his performance in Thailand's top league and make a national team comeback after two years.

The name Teerasil Dangda has returned to the Thai national team roster after about two years.

“The God Muay” delivered consistent performance last season with Bangkok United, appearing in 42 matches, scoring 11 goals, and providing 1 assist, catching the eye of Anthony Hudson who called him back to the Thai national team for FIFA Day friendlies.

How many forwards can sustain playing at the senior Thai national team level approaching 40 years old? One of them is Teerasil Dangda.

The God Muay shared his personal mindset as a forward that has allowed him to continue competing at a high level in football.

“As I get older, my football career is counting down. It makes me think less and not plan too far ahead. I focus on maintaining my physical condition to avoid injury. If I get injured, it could take a long time to recover. It’s really year by year. Lately, I’ve thought this might be my last year, so I don’t worry. But I give my all every time I have the chance to play. I focus fully.”

“We have to take great care of our bodies. Our playing style might need to adjust at times. At 37, 38 years old, I still want to win championships like before. As footballers, we might set personal goals or challenges, but ultimately, we want the team to win trophies.”

“Thank you to the fans who have supported me all along. It’s not just about one or two years, but a very long time. I’m very grateful.”

The Thai national team’s match schedule for June is as follows:

Thailand vs Kuwait on 5 June 2026 at 19:30, at Pathum Thani Stadium.

China vs Thailand on 9 June 2026 at 18:35 (Thailand time), at Jinhua Sports Center Stadium.
