Patrick Deyto, the Philippine national team's goalkeeper who previously played in the Thai League with Suphanburi FC, PT Prachuap FC, and Chonburi FC, admitted feeling disappointed after the 0-1 loss to Thailand in the 2026 ASEAN Cup.
In the match, Thailand had 13 shots on goal while the Philippines had 9. Although the Philippines defended resolutely, Waris Chuthong scored a late header to secure the winning goal for Thailand.
Deyto said, “Of course, I’m very disappointed. We defended very well, but in the end, things didn’t go as we hoped. I’m disappointed because I feel we deserved at least one point.”
This defeat has left the Philippines almost 100 percent eliminated, and their fate is no longer in their own hands.
If the Philippines beat Malaysia in their next match and Thailand defeats Myanmar, there will be a three-way tie for second place in Group B. The head-to-head results and goal difference will then determine who advances to the semifinals.
However, this scenario remains difficult for the Philippines because they lost 1-4 to Myanmar in their opening match, leaving them with a significantly worse goal difference compared to their rivals.
