The Thailand national team must be cautious as "Waris" points out Singapore's most dangerous player ahead of the 2026 ASEAN Cup semifinal clash.
On 14 August 2026, the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) held a press conference at Jalan Besar Stadium ahead of the first leg of the 2026 ASEAN Cup semifinal between Singapore, ranked 148th in the world, and Thailand, ranked 94th.
Waris Chuthong, Thailand’s right-back, said, "I’m glad to be at this point. I want to achieve what the seniors did when they led the Thailand national team to win this tournament."
Waris also stated that Ilhan Fandi, who has already scored three goals in the 2026 ASEAN Cup, is the most dangerous player on the Singapore team that Thailand must watch out for, having played alongside him at BG Pathum United in 2024-25.
"For me, the most dangerous Singapore player is Ilhan Fandi because he has great talent and high quality. When Ilhan plays, he shows a lot of passion for himself and the national team. There’s a bit of humor too, as during the tournament, I’ve had many chances to talk with Ilhan, and now we have to face each other."
"But even though we are friends off the field, for the 90 minutes tomorrow, we are not friends. We will return to being friends when the final whistle blows."
