"Coach Zico" reacted immediately after the Thailand national team finished as runners-up in the ASEAN Cup 2026, failing to overtake Vietnam.
On 27 August 2026, Coach Zico Kiatisuk Senamuang, legendary striker and former head coach of the Thailand national team, posted on social media immediately after the ASEAN Football Championship 2026 concluded, where the "War Elephants" ended as runners-up.
Although the Thailand team was composed mostly of new-generation players and not the main squad members, they still reached the final before finishing as runners-up in the ASEAN Cup 2026.
Coach Zico Kiatisuk Senamuang posted after the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final, where Thailand drew 2-2 away against Vietnam, but the aggregate score was 4-2 in favor of the "Golden Star" team: "Today, all our Thailand national team players performed well, and I would like to congratulate the Vietnam national team as well."
The "defending champions," Vietnam, successfully retained the ASEAN Cup title, claiming their fourth championship following their wins in 2008, 2018, and 2024.
Meanwhile, Thailand still holds the record for the most ASEAN Cup titles, having won seven times in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2020, and 2022.
