Thai national team, listen up: the Indonesian coach delivers strong words ahead of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final.
The Indonesian coach hopes to defeat the Thai national team and claim their first FIFA ASEAN Cup title.
John Herdman, head coach of Indonesia's national team, aims to lead his squad to victory over Thailand to win the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 for the first time in history, following a 9-2 demolition of Bangladesh that secured first place in Group A and a spot in the final last Thursday.
Indonesia advanced to the final with 7 points, equal to Malaysia, and the same goal difference of +7, but Indonesia scored more goals (+11) compared to Malaysia's (+9), making Indonesia the group champion. They will face Thailand, the top team in Group B, on Monday, 5 October at 20:00.
Herdman said, "I am very happy. Now, I want to focus solely on the final match in three days. Let's get excited. I am very proud of the Indonesian players because they have given their all and worked very hard."
"I have never been involved in a tournament like this before, seeing a group of players so dedicated to a single goal: reaching the final. I have worked with many great and interesting teams, but tonight is truly special."
"This is only the first step. Everyone on the team must try even harder. We have the chance to make history by winning the ASEAN Cup for the first time and to bring pride to this country."
