Sarach Decides After Missing Penalty as Thailand Misses FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 Title

"Sarach" has made his decision after missing a penalty, as the Thailand national team missed the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 championship.

On 6 Oct 2026 at 17:00 GMT+7 at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, the Thailand senior men's national football team returned to Thailand after completing their mission at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 in Indonesia.

Thailand finished as runners-up, drawing with Indonesia after 120 minutes in the final before losing 2-4 in the penalty shootout.

Sarach Yuyen, Thailand's midfielder, said, "I think each nation brought their best squad to this tournament. The intensity was higher than when we played in the ASEAN Cup. It was another event from which we benefited for our football."

"Every team focused on high-level football, especially in technique, as shown in the final. The situation changed a lot during the 90 and 120 minutes. This is the charm of football and the tournament's intensity."

"We may have been at a slight physical disadvantage, but we used systems, tactics, and the coach's preparation in the final, which suited the game yesterday. Every teammate performed well and fulfilled their roles to the best of their abilities."

"Certainly, if I get the chance and the coach calls, I’m always ready to serve the country and will give my all. I believe the King's Cup is a good opportunity to win a trophy on home soil. We were disappointed twice before, in the AFF and SEA Games, so this is a good chance to win at home."

"There is still some time. We have more players, including P'Aum, Kant, Jo who is injured, and others in good form like Ter or Je. Everyone is playing well; it depends on the coach's tactics and how players are used."

"Everyone has a fully open chance here. I believe when the actual tournament comes, we will have the best players ready to compete in the Asian Cup."

Going forward, the Thailand men's national football coaching staff will review their performance and plan for the next tournament, the 52nd King's Cup in Sisaket Province, during the FIFA international break in November 2026.
