Iksan Fandi delivered an outstanding performance by scoring two goals himself, leading BG Pattum United to an away 2-0 victory over Muangthong United and securing a place in the Thai League Cup quarterfinals.
On 21 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the Thai League Cup round of 16 took place at Thunder Dome Stadium, where Muangthong United hosted BG Pattum United.
Before the match, Muangthong United was still struggling with poor form despite a coaching change, having recently suffered a heavy 0-3 away defeat to Phalangkan FC that dropped them into the relegation zone. However, they advanced to this round by thrashing Bangkok FC 4-0. The team was missing only Mikael Kempter and Songwut Krai-kruan due to injuries.
Meanwhile, BG Pattum United had yet to win a league match in 2026, most recently losing 0-1 at home to True Bangkok United. But in the cup, they regained confidence with a 4-0 away win over Uttaradit FC. For this game, Sarach Yooyen and Chanathip Songkrasin returned to start in the lineup.
The game began with BG Pattum creating the first chance. At the 10th minute, Tomoyuki Doi crossed to Iksan Fandi, who headed but missed the target. Then, at the 17th minute, Doi attempted a long-range shot that just skimmed past the post.
At the 32nd minute, the visitors' efforts paid off when Chanathip Songkrasin assisted Iksan Fandi, who skillfully turned and curled a right-footed shot into the net, putting BG Pattum United ahead 1-0.
Muangthong nearly equalized in the 37th minute when Marko Saric struck a left-footed shot that hit the crossbar hard. But before halftime, at the 45th minute, Chanathip delivered a left-footed cross for Iksan to jump and head his second goal of the match, extending BG Pattum's lead to 2-0.
In the second half, BG Pattum continued to control the game and had more chances. At the 78th minute, Surachart Sareepim crossed to Chanathip, whose shot hit the post. Muangthong then threatened through Kakhana Kamyok, but the ball was comfortably caught by Saranon Anuin.
The match ended with Muangthong United losing 0-2 to BG Pattum United. Iksan Fandi scored both goals, helping “The Rabbits” secure their first ever win at Thunder Dome and advance to the Thai League Cup quarterfinals. Meanwhile, “The Kirins” were eliminated from another competition.
