Quality speaks! Andros Townsend guarantees the Thai League is excellent and reveals friends have been nudging him about transferring there.
On 9 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Andros Townsend, the English forward for Iron Horse Plangchan and former attacker for Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, gave an interview to Southeast Asia Footballers' Club. He disclosed that former teammates from the English league are interested in moving to the Thai League and discussed the current potential of the Thai League compared to top leagues like South Korea, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.
He said, “It may not be at the level of the Saudi league. I don't think anyone can match Saudi Arabia right now, but I firmly believe the league can definitely develop.”
“Since I moved here, both former teammates and other players have asked me how it is here, even requesting me to talk to my agent. It's clear there is interest in the Thai League. I hope that when people see me playing here, they might want to come try it themselves because there's only good things to say about the Thai League and Thailand. Overall, it’s been great for me.”
“I hope in the future there will be more players from the Premier League coming to play in the Thai League like me and Abubakar Kamara.”
