Disciplinary Committee Decides After Referee Does Not Call Handball on Piyawat, Port FC Defender, in Thai League Match

The Disciplinary Committee clarified that Piyawat, the Port FC defender, did not commit a handball, and the referee's decision was correct.

On 28 April 2026, following the match where Port FC drew 0-0 at home against BG Pathum United in the Thai League 2025-26 postponed match held on 19 April, controversy lingered.

Recently, the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee along with the Subcommittee evaluating referees' performances reviewed BG Pathum United's complaint regarding Piyawat Akkatham, Port FC defender, allegedly handling the ball inside the penalty area, which the referee did not penalize as a handball.

It was concluded that the refereeing team—including Wiwat Champa-on (referee), Chaiyut Ngamsom (VAR), and Worapong Prasertsri (AVAR)—acted correctly in not calling a handball on Piyawat, since the ball first struck Raniel Santana, BG Pathum United's forward, before touching Piyawat's hand, indicating no deliberate handball.
