Muangthong United Issues First Statement Following Relegation from Thai League to Thai League 2 for 2026-27 Season

Muangthong United issues its first statement after the team was relegated from Thai League 1 down to Thai League 2 for the 2026-27 season.

On 11 May 2026, Muangthong United, known as the "Kilen Phayong," released their first statement following their relegation from Thai League 1 to Thai League 2 for the 2026-27 season. This followed a 0-3 away defeat to Sukhothai FC, the "Fire Bats," at Thalay Luang Stadium. This marks their first relegation since their promotion in 2009.

The "Kilen Phayong" Muangthong United stated: "An announcement from Muangthong United Football Club to all fans and supporters of Muangthong United."

"We deeply regret to announce that Muangthong United has officially been relegated to Thai League 2, ending a beautiful 17-year era in Thai League 1 and nearly 19 years since the club's inception. This season has been challenging for us, with team readiness and changes occurring throughout the season. Everyone involved at the club has fought hard in every match, but ultimately, we were unable to achieve our goal in the final game of the season."

"The club sincerely apologizes to everyone—fans, supporters, those involved with the club, and the entire 'Kilen Phayong' family—for not meeting our objectives."

"However, this relegation is not the end of our journey but a new beginning to rebuild a strong winning team, as Muangthong United once did, rising from Thai League 3 in 2007 to becoming a key structure in professional Thai football, winning Thai League 1 championships and advancing to continental competitions."

"Although some players may leave after this season, Muangthong United confirms it will maintain the core quality players and aim to strengthen the squad with potential new signings to compete in the highly competitive Thai League 2. The club will work hard to achieve the goal of winning Thai League 2 in the upcoming season and return to the top flight."

"From today, Muangthong United pledges to fans, supporters, and everyone involved with the club that we will move forward with determination, improving and developing all aspects so that Muangthong United stands proudly alongside our fans, honoring the dedication, cheering, and faith given to the club over 19 full seasons. We remain committed to building a team that serves as a model for Thai football as we advance together."

"Muangthong United thanks everyone once again for standing by the club throughout the 2025-2026 season. The 'Kilen Phayong' will definitely come back. With love and utmost respect, Muangthong United Football Club, 11 May 2026."
