The 2025-26 Thai League season concluded with an analysis of Muangthong United’s chances for promotion after their relegation from the Thai League down to Thai League 2 for the next season.
On 11 May 2026 GMT+7, the 2025-26 Thai League season ended, prompting a discussion on Muangthong United’s prospects on the program "Clear Rim Sen" by Thairath Sport. This followed their relegation from the Thai League to Thai League 2 for the 2026-27 season after a 0-3 away defeat to Sukhothai FC, known as the "Fire Bat," at Thale Luang Stadium. This marked their first relegation since their promotion in 2009.
Jamnong Songkeaw, a highly experienced Thai football expert known as “Nangok Trongkham,” commented, “We have to accept that in this game, Muangthong United was not good enough to beat Sukhothai FC and stay in the Thai League next season. It was a make-or-break match, and they failed. When relegated, team leaders said they would keep fighting, emphasizing that the team started from scratch, so restarting isn't difficult. Discussions about future budgets and team management will take place again.”
Meanwhile, "Bubble" Yingrak Raksuwan, another well-known football analyst, stated, “To be honest, don’t be angry, but I think Muangthong United’s relegation is partly due to repeated criticism, some of which stems from the fans' behavior. I'm not trying to compare, but when Chonburi FC was relegated, there wasn’t as much backlash. Regarding rumors of the team disbanding, those are false; they will definitely continue fighting.”
