Japan, a leading Asian nation, aims to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
On 2 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations are underway, with three host countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The final match will be held at MetLife Stadium in the United States.
Recently, Hajime Moriyasu, head coach of Japan’s national team, declared that the goal is not just to break into the quarterfinals but to target winning the 2026 World Cup.
“I will focus on delivering results and building on what we have developed so far. That is always on my mind,” he said.
“If we become strong, the results will naturally follow. Tactical battles are another matter, but the key is how much strength we can develop before the tournament and how we can show it.”
Moriyasu reflected his ambition by visiting MetLife Stadium, the venue for the final scheduled on 25 July.
“I went there because I wanted to see the stage for the final. The championship trophy is always in my mind; it’s something we must win. I want my team to play on that stage.”
“I believe we should aim to be champions even if we’re not yet confident. I have never competed thinking we would lose. It’s not that I’m overly confident, but that I believe we can do it.”
“Right now, we aim to win the World Cup as an underdog, and we want to be top contenders by 2050. The clearest feeling is to make ourselves stronger than we are now and pass that strength on to the future.”
