Cambodia aims for its men's national football team to compete in the FIFA World Cup final tournament within 20 years.
On 22 Feb 2026 GMT+7, an interesting development emerged in ASEAN football as Cambodia set a target to participate in the FIFA World Cup final between 2042 and 2046, that is, within the next 16 to 20 years.
According to the plan announced by the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC), the Cambodian national team aims to reach the semifinals of the AFF Championship in 2028 and 2030. Following that, by 2032, Cambodia targets qualifying for the final tournament of the Asian Cup.
The greatest ambition in this plan is to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2042 and 2046. This long-term goal requires systematic investment in youth training, infrastructure, domestic competition systems, and sustainable development strategies.
