Gennaro Gattuso opened up after leading the Italy national team to their first loss against Bosnia in 30 years, resulting in missing the FIFA World Cup finals for the third consecutive time.
On 1 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Gennaro Gattuso, the Italian coach, spoke out after guiding the Azzurri, Italy’s national football team, to a penalty shootout loss to Bosnia’s national team by 1-4, following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes. This marked Italy's first defeat against this opponent in 30 years and caused them to miss the FIFA World Cup finals for the third time in a row.
Recently, Gennaro Gattuso said, "We did not deserve this (elimination) because we showed great determination. We played with only ten men from the 40th minute of the match. Of course, we are saddened by this outcome, but this is football. I am proud of my team, but honestly, we feel a lot of pain." Meanwhile, Gabriele Gravina, president of the Italian Football Federation, has asked Gattuso to remain as the national team’s head coach.
Previously, in October, Italy’s head coach Gennaro Gattuso said, "If we fail to qualify for the World Cup, I will move far away from Italy."
