Moriyasu Delighted as Samurai Blue Defeat Lions at Home, Boost Confidence for World Cup but Stress Need for Development

Hajime Moriyasu, head coach of Japan's national team, opened up after leading the 'Samurai Blue' to a narrow 1-0 away victory over England. He described it as a significant win that boosts confidence ahead of the World Cup but stressed that the team must continue to develop.

On 1 April 2026, in a friendly match between England and Japan at Wembley Stadium, Hajime Moriyasu, Japan's head coach, shared his thoughts after the 1-0 victory over England, saying that beating a top-level team like England on their home ground is not easy. This result demonstrates Japan's potential to compete with and beat any team on the world stage.

However, the 55-year-old coach remained grounded despite the victory, warning his players to stay focused and keep improving their performance continuously to strengthen the team ahead of the important tournament.

"This win has greatly boosted our confidence. At the same time, we must not stop developing because the World Cup is the toughest stage, and we need to be even better prepared," Moriyasu concluded.

This result is seen as another positive sign for Japan’s national team, which is currently building a squad blending young talents with experienced players. They are expected to deliver impressive performances in this World Cup.
