Number 1 changes hands: Summary of the latest top 10 world rankings after the FIFA rankings announcement in April 2026.

On 1 April 2026 GMT+7, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) officially released the latest world rankings following the conclusion of the March FIFA international match window, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers playoffs, friendly matches, and continental championship qualifiers such as the 2027 Asian Cup.

It was revealed that the French national team, two-time world champions, climbed from third to first place in the world for the first time in 7 years and 6 months, since September 2018, following their World Cup victory. This came after friendly wins over Brazil 2-1 and Colombia 3-1.

Meanwhile, Spain, the 2024 European Championship winners, dropped to second place after holding the number 1 spot for six months, and Argentina, the 2022 World Cup champions, were pushed down to third.

Brazil, the nation with the most World Cup titles at five, fell to sixth place—their lowest ranking in five months—while Portugal rose to fifth place in the world rankings, replacing Brazil.
