Generous Rewards! Congo President Gives Big Bonuses to National Team After 52 Years Qualifying for 2026 World Cup

Generous rewards! The generous president gives big bonuses to Congo's national team after qualifying for the 2026 World Cup for the first time in 52 years.

On 7 April 2026, Félix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, announced a lavish reward package for the players and coaching staff of Congo's national team in recognition of their successful qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

This significant victory came after Congo defeated Jamaica 1-0 in the intercontinental playoff, with the winning goal scored by Axel Tuanzebe, former Manchester United defender. This secured Congo's return to the World Cup stage for the first time since 1974, ending a 52-year absence.

Honors and rewards "Cars, houses, and cash" To fulfill his earlier promise, President Tshisekedi held an official award ceremony, handing over car keys to team captain Chancel Mbemba and French head coach Sébastien Desabre. The rewards given to the players and staff include:

  • Cars: Each player and staff member received a vehicle to aid their travel and symbolize their achievement.

  • Housing: The government granted ownership of homes to every team member to provide stability for the nation’s heroes.

  • Special cash bonuses: In addition to regular allowances, substantial cash bonuses were awarded as encouragement and recognition.

During the ceremony, President Tshisekedi warmly congratulated the team, saying, "I promised you that if you accomplished this difficult mission and brought Congo back to the World Cup after 52 years, the nation would reward you with everything you need. Today, I have fulfilled that promise."

Looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Congo is seen as one of the most exciting African teams, boasting a squad with players active in Europe and backed fully by government support and a fighting spirit.
