Anutin Admits Hes Not a Football Fan and Only Recently Learned World Cup Is Near Confirms Talks with Private Sector on Live Broadcast

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said in an interview regarding the World Cup live broadcast issue that discussions and consultations are currently underway with the private sector, as the government cannot directly purchase the broadcast rights.

On 6 May 2026 GMT+7, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul spoke about the World Cup live broadcast issue, saying that discussions and consultations are ongoing because the government cannot directly acquire the broadcast rights.

Anutin said he is not a football fan and does not closely follow sports; he only recently learned that the tournament is approaching, so urgent cooperation among all parties is necessary.

“The government cannot buy the rights itself, but it can coordinate, seek cooperation, and support from the private sector,” Anutin said.

He acknowledged that the private sector must consider economic conditions and various costs, but the government is still making every effort to enable Thai people to watch the World Cup matches.

When asked whether the live broadcast would be ready from the first match, Anutin replied, “We are trying our best.”
