Bor Boo Candidly Addresses the Government on Purchasing the 2026 World Cup Broadcast Rights

"Bor Boo" candidly addressed the "government," asking if not buying the 2026 World Cup broadcast rights will genuinely help develop Thai football.

On 19 May 2026, regarding the 2026 World Cup broadcasting rights in Thailand, there is still no clarity on whether the government will purchase them. FIFA is asking for a high price of 1.3 billion baht, plus about 300 million baht in taxes, and an additional 100 million baht in operational costs, totaling over 1.7 billion baht that the Thai government must secure.

Bor Boo, or Jom Buranit Rattanawichian, a well-known columnist, spoke on the Coreball Cafe by Bor Boo & Maophet channel about the 2026 World Cup rights, saying, "When they said they would use 1.3 billion baht of our tax money to buy the World Cup rights, a backlash arose. People disagreed, saying it would be better to invest the money in developing Thai football or building football stadiums."

"I want to ask everyone: if they don’t buy the World Cup rights, do you really believe they will use that money to build football stadiums?"

The opening match of the 2026 World Cup is Mexico versus South Africa on the night of 11 June 2026 (early morning of 12 June, Thailand time) at 2:00 a.m.
