DR Congo May Be Banned from 2026 World Cup if Quarantine is Not Observed

"DR Congo" may be barred from competing in the 2026 World Cup if they do not quarantine before entering the United States.

On 23 May 2026, Andrew Giuliani, Executive Director of the White House Task Force for the World Cup, confirmed that the DR Congo national team players must quarantine for 21 days; otherwise, they may not be allowed to enter the United States to compete in the 2026 World Cup.

Most players and coaches of the DR Congo national team play professionally in France, while some coaching staff reside in their home country, but all have traveled abroad prior to this.

DR Congo is one of the countries currently facing an outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, a variant of the Ebola virus. The team is scheduled for training camp and two friendly matches in Belgium, where U.S. authorities have instructed them to quarantine.

DR Congo is scheduled to arrive in Houston, Texas, on 11 June to prepare for their opening match against Portugal on 18 June.
