Up to now, it is believed that football fans in our country remain eagerly waiting to see whether Thailand
will have free live broadcasts of the World Cup to watch or not.
Although the government under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has recently announced that
they will not spend over 1.3 billion baht of taxpayers’ money to purchase broadcast rights at an excessively high price.
Most people in the nation, including myself, agree that the price FIFA is asking is outrageously expensive.
While neighboring ASEAN countries like Vietnam pay only 550 million baht for the license,
why does Thailand, whose economic growth is roughly comparable (and arguably Vietnam's is even better now),
have to pay nearly twice as much? I really don't understand FIFA’s logic.
Moreover, there are additional operational costs of around 400 million baht, totaling 1.7 billion baht the government must find.
This is for the enjoyment of a small group of football fans during a short one-month period.
Clearly, this is unreasonable and inappropriate given the country’s severely struggling economy at this time.
Especially the vague operational costs that appeared out of nowhere,
which may be a “gift” to certain companies with overlapping interests tied to senior government officials.
It is even more inappropriate for such a huge amount of money to be lost into anyone’s pockets, not even a single baht.
Let it be known worldwide that
from now on, Thailand will no longer allow FIFA or any agents to inflate prices and overcharge our nation.
Otherwise, we will continue to suffer from such exploitation year after year and never achieve true liberation.
So, the question of live World Cup broadcasts remains uncertain until the very last second—whether negotiations with FIFA will succeed or fail.
Or if there will be a private-sector 'hero' willing to sacrifice by purchasing the broadcasting rights for Thai viewers to watch legally.
At this point, I believe true Thai football fans are willing to pay for a package to watch.
The idea of 'watching for free' should be abandoned as that era has long passed.
What is certain and not to be missed is the major campaign that Thairath organizes every two years.
The big football event lottery alternates between the World Cup and the European Championship.
Earlier this week, Thailand Post Company Limited joined forces with Thairath Group to launch the year's biggest campaign.
"Cheer Loud, Celebrate, Win Prizes Anytime, Anywhere"

This activity is the 15th consecutive collaboration between Thairath and Thailand Post since 1996.
At the event, “Boss Junior” Watchara Watcharapol, Co-CEO of Thairath Online and Thairath TV,
jointly announced details with Dr. Danan Supatapan, CEO and Managing Director of Thailand Post Company Limited.
The campaign allows football fans to enter to win by participating via physical postcards and online postcards through the Prompt Post and Paotang applications.
This provides convenience to join anytime and anywhere, fitting the digital consumer lifestyle better.
Interested participants can buy postcards at any post office branch, from postal workers, or any postal staff.
Then write or type the name, address, and the single country they support on the postcard.
They can also enter the contest anytime and anywhere through online postcards on the Prompt Post and Paotang apps by selecting their supported country in the system.
Choose the number of online postcards to buy and confirm payment.
Specially, customers who buy online postcards through Prompt Post and register and verify their identity via ThaID will receive five free online postcards.
Both physical postcards and online postcards are sold at the same price of 3 baht each via both channels.
Participants will have a chance to win prizes totaling over 12 million baht, including gold, cars, motorcycles, smartphones, and many other prizes.
The grand prize draw will be held within 30 days after the final match date.
This year’s event is even more special with an additional draw during the round of 16,
allowing the public to join the fun and win prizes from the early competition stages before the grand final draw.
