Hall Of Fame "Andrés Iniesta," a small-statured midfielder, is one of the greatest players of Spain's golden football era.
One of the world's most talented midfielders is Andrés Iniesta, a national hero who scored the winning goal to help Spain defeat the Netherlands 1-0 in the 2010 World Cup final.
Iniesta is the only player in football history to be named the best player in the finals of the 2015 UEFA Champions League, Euro 2012, and the 2010 World Cup.
His winning goal in the 116th minute against the Netherlands in 2010 secured Spain's first-ever World Cup title, ending decades of frustration.
Although the 2010 World Cup was where Iniesta shone brightest and gained immense fame, his performances in prior major international tournaments were also outstanding compared to other players.
Starting with Euro 2008, which ended Spain's 44-year wait for a major title, Iniesta played every match and was selected for the tournament's best team. His standout playing style, known worldwide as "tiki-taka," emphasized ball possession and precise short passing to dominate opponents.
Two years later, at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Iniesta was named the best player of the final and included in the tournament's best XI. His performances with both Barcelona and Spain in 2010 nearly earned him the Ballon d'Or, but he ultimately lost to Lionel Messi.
Then at Euro 2012, Iniesta led Spain to another championship, marking back-to-back European titles. Spain became the first team to win three consecutive major tournaments: Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup, and Euro 2012. Andrés Iniesta, the small midfielder nicknamed "El Ilusionista"—meaning "The Magician" in Spanish—was the heart of all this success.
After 22 years with Barcelona, Iniesta signed with Vissel Kobe in Japan's J1 League in 2018, winning a title there before moving to Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates in 2023. He finally retired in October 2024, closing one of the most successful careers in football history with 35 trophies.
