Major Surprise: Spains 2026 World Cup Squad Includes 7 Premier League Players

A major surprise: Spain's 2026 World Cup squad includes 7 players from the Premier League.

On 25 May 2026 GMT+7, Luis de la Fuente, head coach of the Spanish national team, announced the final 26-player roster for the 2026 World Cup, to be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada from 11 June to 19 July.

It turns out that this Spain squad features the most players from Barcelona, with eight including key Euro 2024 champions Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo. Additionally, seven players come from the English Premier League, led by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya—the latest Premier League champion—and Rodri, the Manchester City captain and Carabao Cup winner this season.

The surprising aspect is that Luis de la Fuente did not call up any players from Real Madrid, marking the first time in 76 years since the 1950 World Cup in Brazil that no Real Madrid player has been selected.

Spain's 26-player squad for the 2026 World Cup:

Goalkeepers

- Unai Simón (Athletic Bilbao), David Raya (Arsenal), Jon García (Barcelona)

Defenders

- Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), Alex Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen), Pau Cubarsí (Barcelona), Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao), Marc Pubill (Atlético Madrid), Eric García (Barcelona), Marcos Llorente (Atlético Madrid), Pedro Porro (Tottenham Hotspur)
