Norway thoroughly defeated Sweden in last night's friendly match preparing for the 2026 World Cup.
On 2 June 2026, the first warm-up match took place as teams prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final tournament scheduled from 11 June to 19 July, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The result saw Norway, who did not field Erling Haaland, the prolific striker from Manchester City, either as a starter or substitute, dominate Sweden. The Swedish team, led by Alexander Isak of Liverpool, was defeated 3-1.
In the first half, Norway took a 3-0 lead with Jørgen Strand Larsen, the Crystal Palace striker and UEFA Conference League champion, scoring twice at the 8th and 37th minutes. The other goal came from Antonio Nusa at the 18th minute.
In the second half, Sweden broke the deadlock with a goal from Alexander Isak in the 76th minute but could not score further, resulting in their first warm-up game loss before the 2026 World Cup. Their first group F match will be against Tunisia on 14 June.
Meanwhile, Norway started their warm-up campaign with a win before their opening group I match against Iraq on 16 June.
