Roy Keane spoke candidly about one England national team player ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Roy Keane, the well-known football analyst, advised Harry Kane to concentrate solely on scoring goals if he hopes to lead the England national team to win the 2026 World Cup.
Kane is entering the 2026 World Cup on the back of impressive form, having scored 61 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich last season, with 36 of those goals coming in the German Bundesliga.
Many believe England's hopes rest on Kane, and Keane agrees but thinks the former Tottenham player must adjust his style due to the hot weather and pitch conditions at this World Cup. He recommends Kane stay forward to finish chances rather than dropping deep to link play.
“He needs to be smart about his positioning. He doesn’t have to run back past midfield to pass the ball around. There are quality players who can do that. You just need to stay upfront because right now, you’re the best player in the world in that position.”
“If England wants to win a major tournament like this, they will need Kane as a key figure.”
However, Kane does not believe the issue is as severe as Keane or others suggest, claiming the team has adapted to the heat.
Kane said, “The water breaks help. Many talk about the heat, but I don’t think it will be as big a factor as some say.”
“Some of us, including myself and teammates, have been training for a while and feel good. We’re all athletes, professionals, and have experience playing in similar weather.”
The England national team will begin their 2026 World Cup campaign with a first match against Croatia on 17 June 2026 GMT+7.
