Yamal has arrived with two memorable remarks should the Spain national team win the 2026 World Cup.
On 8 June 2026, Lamin Yamal, the standout winger of the Spain national team, opened up ahead of his first-ever World Cup debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, running from 11 June to 19 July.
The 18-year-old Lamin Yamal declared his goal to win the 2026 World Cup after helping Spain win Euro 2024, promising, "I vow that if I win the World Cup, I will grow a thick beard for one year. No, actually... just three weeks will do."
Additionally, Yamal believes that winning the 2026 World Cup will help him clinch the Ballon d'Or as the world's best footballer. He previously came close, finishing second behind France's Ousmane Dembélé of Paris Saint-Germain.
Yamal spoke about his pursuit of the Ballon d'Or before the 2026 World Cup: "Honestly, I thought I would win it then, but because of many things that happened, I think it was good that Dembélé got the award."
"Regarding my personal development, I believe it wasn’t the right time to receive the award because I was still young and did not fully understand the meaning of winning the Ballon d'Or."
"Besides, I get along well with Dembélé. We've gone out together, spent time, and talked a lot. Recently, he called to check on me and has helped me grow a lot personally."
"He helped me regain my footing during a difficult time, and I believe I have grown and changed many things in my life since then."
"I am happy for Ousmane. We used to be in Dubai together, seemed to get along well, and we talk occasionally. Let’s see if this year will be my year."
