The Bangladesh government approved BTV to purchase the 2026 FIFA World Cup broadcasting rights directly from FIFA for 727.1 million taka, approximately 193 million baht.
On 8 June 2026 GMT+7, the Bangladesh Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved a proposal for Bangladesh Television (BTV) to acquire the live broadcast rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup directly from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), enabling citizens nationwide to watch the world's largest sporting event comprehensively.
This approval occurred during the 25th CCGP meeting of the year, held at the Bangladesh Government Secretariat on the previous Sunday, chaired by Amir Kasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Minister of Finance.
Sources revealed that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting submitted a proposal to the committee seeking approval to purchase the 2026 World Cup media rights from FIFA through the Direct Procurement Method (DPM). The total contract value is 727.1 million taka, or about 193 million baht.
Under this agreement, BTV will receive “All Media Rights” for the 2026 World Cup, allowing the state broadcaster to fully present the matches and related content across all broadcasting platforms.
Officials stated that the committee reviewed both technical and financial details before approving the proposal. The purchase will be conducted directly with FIFA, the governing body and organizer of the World Cup.
This decision reflects the Bangladesh government’s commitment to providing citizens nationwide access to the global sporting event through the state public media.
Once the procurement process is completed, Bangladeshi football fans will be able to watch live broadcasts and related programs of the 2026 World Cup across the country via BTV.
For the 2022 World Cup, BTV previously purchased broadcast rights from Toma Construction for 980 million taka. However, for the 2026 tournament, buying the rights directly from FIFA has reduced costs by nearly 250 million taka.
