In the 13th minute of the first half, Switzerland earned a penalty after Remo Freuler broke through and was fouled by Abunada. Breel Embolo successfully converted the penalty, putting Switzerland ahead 1-0, a score that stood until halftime.
In the second half, the game seemed set to end in Switzerland’s favor, but in the 5th minute of injury time (90+5), Qatar scored an equalizer. Omam Ahmed crossed from the left wing to the far post, where Boualem Khoukhi headed the ball into the net.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw between Qatar and Switzerland. In upcoming matches on Thursday, 18 June, Switzerland will face Bosnia, while Qatar will play against Canada.
