Iran National Team Frustrated Again with U.S. as 2026 World Cup Host

Amir Ghalenoei, Iran's coach, complained that he had to reduce training time because the team had to travel in and out of the United States.

On 21 June 2026 GMT+7, the Iran national team was required by the 2026 World Cup organizers to leave the United States on the same day after each game and return to Mexico, causing considerable dissatisfaction.

Originally, before the tournament started, Iran had hoped to set up a training camp in the U.S., but was unable to do so because their visas were not approved, forcing them to train in Mexico instead.

However, Amir Ghalenoei recently stated that the team had to reduce training time to prepare physically and technically. The host has now allowed Iran to arrange their own travel into the country, unlike before when they had to enter only at specified times.

Iran's next match will be against Belgium tonight (early morning 22 June) at 02:00 GMT+7, followed by their final group stage match against Egypt on 27 June at 10:00 GMT+7, Thailand time.
