"Klopp" is close to becoming the Germany national team coach following the latest developments.
On 3 July 2026, Bild, a prominent German media outlet, reported that Julian Nagelsmann had decided to resign as head coach of the Germany national team after a disappointing 2026 World Cup performance, where Germany was eliminated in the round of 32. They lost to Paraguay 3-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes.
This decision came during a tense emergency meeting at the German Football Association (DFB) headquarters in Frankfurt, where influential federation figures informed him that his time was up.
Sources indicated that the DFB arranged for Julian Nagelsmann to leave his position with dignity by voluntarily resigning, in order to avoid a sudden dismissal that could cause psychological distress.
Nagelsmann, who still had a contract until Euro 2028, will receive compensation equivalent to one year’s salary as part of the agreement to end his contract.
Earlier, Julian Nagelsmann had announced he would not resign immediately after the 2026 World Cup. However, upon returning home, he faced internal criticism for an allegedly arrogant and selfish attitude, and pressure from executives eventually compelled him to step down.
The DFB is urgently seeking a new Germany national team coach, with leading candidate Jürgen Klopp, former manager of Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. Reports persist that Klopp is ready to accept the role, while currently serving as the global head of football for Red Bull.
