It's time! Neymar announces his retirement from the Brazil national team following their exit in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Following Brazil's 1-2 loss to Norway and their exit in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, Neymar, the samba squad's superstar forward, has officially announced his retirement from international football.
The 34-year-old striker ends his career as Brazil's all-time top scorer, with 80 goals in 129 matches.
Neymar made his senior national team debut in 2010 and has played in four World Cup final tournaments. He also competed in two Olympic Games, winning a silver medal in 2012 and leading Brazil to gold in 2016.
In the 2026 World Cup, Neymar appeared as a substitute in two matches, coming on in the second half against Scotland in the group stage, and scoring his only tournament goal from a penalty during injury time in the recent game against Norway.
"I tried again and again, and now it's over," Neymar said after the match.
