Proud Tuchel Reveals 2 Reasons Why England, Down to 10 Men, Beat Mexico to Reach 2026 World Cup Quarterfinals

Proud "Tuchel" revealed two reasons why England, reduced to 10 men, defeated Mexico to reach the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals.

On 6 July 2026, Thomas Tuchel, head coach of the England national team, spoke after the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match in which England narrowly defeated co-host Mexico 3-2 despite being down to 10 men following Jarell Quansah's red card in the 54th minute.

This win advanced England to the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals, where they will face Norway, who defeated Brazil 2-1, in a match scheduled for Saturday, 11 July.

Thomas Tuchel commented on England playing with 10 men yet still beating Mexico: "I'm very proud. We had to give everything. It was an extremely tough game. Just when we thought we had control or the advantage, obstacles interrupted us. But that’s an excellent attitude."

"(On handling adversity) This team has true determination. When faced with difficult situations, they never gave up or lost faith. This is another important step forward."

"We have to savor this moment. This is Azteca Stadium, this is Mexico, and it was a fierce, intense game. We gave everything on the pitch, every single person. We must hold on to this feeling and then push forward with full force."
