Drama Continues: Trump and FIFAs Latest Moves on Baloguns Red Card Suspension at 2026 World Cup

Drama continues as "Trump - FIFA" make latest moves regarding Florin Balogun's red card suspension at the 2026 World Cup.

On 7 July 2026, the controversy over Florin Balogun's red card continues. Recently, Donald Trump, President of the United States, confirmed he requested FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review the red card given to the U.S. national team's striker during the 2026 World Cup round of 32 match, where they won 2-0 against Bosnia.

Donald Trump considered the sending off of Florin Balogun in this case unfair but affirmed that he did not pressure FIFA to overturn the suspension ruling.

"I only asked for a reconsideration because I don't think it was a foul. I didn't tell him what to do. I can't give him orders," Trump said.

Meanwhile, FIFA issued a further statement that the one-match suspension for Florin Balogun, which had been deferred for 12 months, will also include a $40,000 fine for two offenses: receiving the red card and re-entering the field to celebrate with U.S. teammates "after being sent off."

Currently, Florin Balogun is listed among the 11 starting players for the United States in the 2026 World Cup round of 16 match against Belgium, scheduled to kick off at 07:00 Thai time.
