England has made its latest move regarding Jarrell Quansah's red card following the Balogun case in the 2026 World Cup, signaling ongoing developments.
On 7 July 2026, the England national team announced they are considering all options to appeal Jarrell Quansah's red card from the 2026 World Cup round of 16 match, where they narrowly defeated co-host Mexico 3-2 on Sunday.
In the match, Jarrell Quansah started as England's right back but was sent off in the 54th minute after a VAR review showed a studs-up sliding tackle on Jesús Gallardo. This red card means he will serve a one-match suspension in the quarterfinal against Norway on 11 July.
According to regulations, there is normally no official ground to appeal such a red card; however, the suspension lift of U.S. striker Folarin Balogun following his red card in the round of 32 win over Bosnia 2-0 has changed the situation.
FIFA applied disciplinary regulation Article 27 to place Balogun's 12-month ban on probation, allowing him to start for the U.S. in the round of 16 before their 1-4 loss to Belgium.
