Can He Do It? Tuchel in Contention to Be the Third Coach in History to Win Two Major Titles

Can he do it? "Tuchel" is in contention to become the third coach in history to win two major championships.

On 7 July 2026 GMT+7, after the England national team defeated Mexico to advance to the quarterfinals, the Three Lions are in contention for their second World Cup title, having last won in 1966.

Additionally, Thomas Tuchel is aiming to be the third coach to win both the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Cup. Previously, only two coaches achieved this: Italian Marcello Lippi and Spanish Vicente del Bosque.

Marcello Lippi, during his time coaching in Italy's Serie A, led Juventus to win the UEFA Champions League in the 1995/1996 season. That Juventus squad featured stars who have since become top-level managers worldwide, including Didier Deschamps and Antonio Conte, as well as Italian legendary striker Alessandro Del Piero.

In the 2006 World Cup, Lippi led Italy to victory over France in a penalty shootout 5-3, after a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes, securing the World Cup title.

Meanwhile, Vicente del Bosque, while managing in Spain's La Liga, guided Real Madrid to two UEFA Champions League titles in the 1999/2000 and 2001/2002 seasons, with star players such as Roberto Carlos, Steve McManaman, and Raúl González.

At the 2010 World Cup, del Bosque led Spain to a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in the final, securing Spain's first-ever World Cup championship.

German coach Thomas Tuchel previously led the "Blues" Chelsea to win the UEFA Champions League in the 2020/2021 season.

The World Cup quarterfinal match between England and Norway will be held at Miami Stadium on Sunday, 12 July at 04:00 GMT+7 (night of 11 July, Thailand time).
