Over 500 Newborns in Peru Named Haaland in One Month During 2026 World Cup

More than 500 newborns in Peru have been named "Haaland" this month during the 2026 World Cup period.

The popularity of Erling Haaland continues to soar, following his previous viral presence on social media, including lookalikes, people imitating his walking style, and numerous memes.

Recently, Peru's leading local media outlet, PERU 21, reported that just this month alone, 468 newborn babies in Peru were named "Haaland." Furthermore, among these, 91 babies were given the full combo name "Erling Haaland," reflecting the high admiration Peruvian football fans have for the Norwegian striker.

This trend emerged after the Norwegian national team striker delivered an outstanding performance in the 2026 World Cup, which was Haaland's first World Cup appearance. He scored an impressive seven goals, leading Norway to make World Cup history by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time.
