"Vozinha," hero of the Cape Verde national team, has seen his salary nearly triple after joining Colo-Colo in the Chilean league.
On 29 July 2026, Vozinha, the 40-year-old goalkeeper for Cape Verde who became a global fan favorite during the 2026 World Cup, officially transferred from Chaves, a Portuguese second division club, to Chilean giant Colo-Colo, with a significant salary increase.
Previously, Vozinha was an unattached goalkeeper during the World Cup after his contract with Chaves expired. However, his incredible saves in Cape Verde's goalless draw against reigning champions Spain, as well as his performance in the 2-3 extra-time loss to Argentina, made him famous worldwide. His Instagram followers surged from about 50,000 to nearly 30 million within weeks.
Aníbal Mosa, president of Colo-Colo, confirmed that an agreement had been reached for Vozinha's transfer. The player is scheduled to undergo a medical exam in Santiago before his official presentation at Estadio Monumental.
At age 40, his salary has increased dramatically.
His previous salary at Chaves was approximately $9,000–$10,000 per month (300,000–333,000 baht).
Chilean media outlet La Cuarta reported that Vozinha will receive about $25,000 per month (838,000 baht) after joining Colo-Colo, marking a significant raise from his previous Portuguese salary. This means his salary has nearly tripled.
