Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, has been summoned to appear before the U.S. Congress regarding his relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump.
On 29 July 2026, Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin officially opened an investigation into Gianni Infantino, President of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), demanding the release of documents revealing the relationship between the world football organization and the U.S. government under President Donald Trump.

Raskin demands Infantino to provide all documents and communications related to any gifts, money, or benefits given to Trump and his close associates.
He requests access to visitor logs of FIFA's office in Trump Tower, which FIFA has leased since last year.
Infantino is asked to provide a transcribed interview as testimony.
The deadline for FIFA to submit documents and schedule the interview is set for 9 August.
The suspicion stems from the highly scrutinized relationship between Infantino and Trump before and during the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the U.S. At the December group draw ceremony, Trump was awarded the newly established “FIFA Peace Prize” at the Kennedy Center.
During the tournament, Trump directly called Infantino to request a review of the red card suspension imposed on U.S. national team player Folarin Balogun before the round of 16.
Trump also appeared alongside Infantino and the leaders of Canada and Mexico at the trophy presentation after Spain defeated Argentina in the final, where both were booed by the stadium crowd.
However, since the Democrats do not currently hold the majority in the House of Representatives, Raskin lacks the authority to compel Infantino to testify unless supported by Republicans. Nevertheless, the investigation could intensify if Democrats win a majority in the upcoming midterm elections, granting the committee subpoena power.
