Ratchanok Intanon Opens Up After Winning Womens Singles Gold, Bids Farewell to SEA Games 2025

Ratchanok Intanon gave an interview after winning the women's singles gold medal at SEA Games 2025.

On 14 December 2025, Ratchanok Intanon, the world No. 8 seed, defeated Supanida Katethong, the world No. 12 seed and 2023 defending champion, 2-0 in games with scores of 21-19, 21-7. She secured the women's singles badminton gold medal at SEA Games 2025, her first individual gold after representing the national team at the SEA Games since 2009 in Laos, closing her final SEA Games appearance on a high note.

“May” Ratchanok Intanon said in an interview, “I think Supanida prevented me from playing the game I wanted as well as I should have. I tried to push myself, but early on I felt some fatigue from yesterday, which affected my movement and positioning.”

“I'm happy to have won this championship because throughout the week I tried to hide my feelings of pressure. I'm someone who wants to succeed and accomplish my goals. I also prepared myself mentally in case I didn’t succeed, but today I did.”

“Regarding this year's World Tour Finals, my body’s condition dropped, so beating opponents at full strength was quite difficult. I will focus on recovering my body to be ready for upcoming competitions. I don't expect to win the championship but at least I want to enjoy playing to the fullest.”

“Going forward, I want to achieve success in the Asian Games in both individual and team events. I previously won a silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games in China, but I still lack an individual medal. This experience has been a good lesson in overcoming my own pressure.”

“I have to take very good care of myself now because I’m 30 years old and recovery takes longer. I’m trying to pay more attention to myself than when I was in my early 20s.”

“I’m not too worried about the women's singles for SEA Games. Many are waiting to step up, but I am still here. The younger players will respect the coach’s decisions. I want the upcoming players to gain experience and I want to encourage them for the next SEA Games.”

“I will never forget this SEA Games, playing at home and winning two gold medals. I had supporters cheering for both 'May Left' and 'May Beautiful' (laughs). The fans really soaked up the lively atmosphere.”

“If this SEA Games was a book, it would be perfectly complete.”

Ratchanok Intanon’s SEA Games achievements include 4 gold medals in team events, 1 individual gold medal, 1 individual silver medal, and 2 individual bronze medals.
